Inner Growth Word of the Day: Obligation
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 2 a. something (such as a formal contract, a promise, or the demands of conscience or custom) that obligates one to a course of action. 3 a. a condition or feeling of being obligated.
Obligation in a sentence: The depth behind an obligation is much more than it first appears to be once you realize what an obligation really is.
Obligation in action: When you are in a position or feeling where you have to do something whether you like it or not, that is an obligation.
Obligation and inner growth: Exploring how an obligation affects you, what types of obligations are in your life, and how you feel about obligations all bring about inner growth as you become aware of your relationship and emotional connection with obligations. This awareness allows you to make decisions and transformations moving forward, so that you find harmony with your life and your obligations.
Obligation and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: What is an obligation to me? How do obligations affect me? When have I felt obligated to do something? Why do obligations make me feel how they do? Who do I feel obligated towards and why? What obligations have I removed from my life? What obligations do I want to have in my life? How do I live obligations?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with obligation at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of two situations where obligation played a major role in how the situations played out. Write about the situation that stands out the most for how it made you feel as you were living it.
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about when you feel or live obligation and notice what types of emotions start to arise, where they begin and how they flow throughout your body. As you do this, visualize a flowing river and for any feelings that seem to settle in some places more than others, visualize them moving along the river.
