October 15

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Role

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a2. a socially expected behavior pattern usually determined by an individual’s status in a particular society.  2. a function or part performed especially in a particular operation or process.

Role in a sentence: The role you play in your life is up to you to decide, define, and validate or not.

Role in action: The assigned status you have in your family is a role.

Role and inner growth: A look at the role you feel you have in life gets you to explore those thoughts that affect your day to day and this brings about inner growth as you decide how you want to approach these feelings definitions moving forward.

Role and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does a role mean to me? How do roles affect my life?  When did I start identifying the roles I play in life?  Who affects my roles?  Why is a role important to me or not important to me?  How do I define roles in life?  Do I assign roles to other people in my life?  How does what I see my role as affect my life?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with role at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of the three roles that affect you the most and write about one of them using the words from your list.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about your role in any situation and allow those emotions to tell you a bit more about this role’s meaning in your life. As that takes place notice where your emotions start and where they go.  Visualize a flowing river as you do this and that those feelings are smoothly moving along.  When you’re ready think of other roles in your life and notice how your emotions change.

Your turn – Share your role sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
