Inner Growth Word of The Day 286 – Assumption

October 13

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Assumption

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 3 a. an assuming that something is true.  3 b. a fact or statement (such as a proposition, axiom (see axiom 2), postulate, or notion) taken for granted.

Assumption in a sentence: An assumption can take you down the right path when used wisely and openly or it can close you off to the opportunities that lie ahead, it all depends on you.

Assumption in action: When you think you know what someone or something is about, that is an assumption.

Assumption and inner growth: Exploring when you make an assumption, how these assumptions play a role in your life and what consequences they bring about are different ways you pursue inner growth thanks to your assumptions.

Assumption and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: When has an assumption affected my life in a major way? How do I make assumptions?  When do I make assumptions?  Why do I make assumptions?  What are my feelings about the assumptions others make of me?  What are my feelings of the assumptions I make of others?  What are some of the takeaways assumption has brought my way?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with assumption at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From these words think of one episode where your assumption brought you exactly where you thought you’d get.  Write about this event using the words from your list.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about when you make an assumption and allow those emotions to flow, noticing where they start and where they go. As you do this, sit in silence and visualize a place that brings you joy and peace.  When you’re ready think of assumptions you’ve made of others and then that others have made of you; notice how your feelings change throughout this thinking moment.

Your turn – Share your assumption sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
