Inner Growth Word of The Day 280 – Pain

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Pain

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 2 b. acute mental or emotional distress or suffering.

Pain in a sentence: It is never easy to go through pain; but when it is behind you, you always notice the growth you’ve been able to make when looking for the takeaways as you go through the moment.

Pain in action: When you are emotionally stressed or are suffering for something, that is pain.

Pain and inner growth: When you look at how you deal with pain you find out the approach you have to life’s unexpected moments and through that awareness you can then make choices of how you want to continue along your path.  Your exploration and transformation throughout the process brings about inner growth because of the gained insights you have into how you choose to get through rough patches and life, but also what actions you take to change things for your inner harmony.

Pain and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does emotional pain make me think of at first?  What types of pains have I been through that stand out the most to me and why do they stand out?  When was the first time I recall emotional pain taking place?  What was the situation and how did I overcome it?  How did this event affect me moving forward?  What are my biggest takeaways from emotional pain situations?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with pain at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. With this list think one event where the emotional pain you went through was caused by something you could not have done anything about.  Write about this situation using the words from your list and end it with one takeaway that has helped you along in life.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about when you’re in emotional pain and alongside this though, keep a visual of something that makes you happy (this will balance out the potential sorrow that is caused from emotional pain moments). As you do this don’t think about events per se, just let the emotions flow and notice where they start and where they go.  If you notice them staying in certain places of your body, visualize a river flowing calmly into the ocean.
