Inner Growth Word of The Day 272 – Protect

September 29

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Protect

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (v.) 1 a. to cover or shield from exposure, injury, damage, or destruction.  1 b. defend.

Protect in a sentence: The reasons that you protect something or someone are vast and many, but one of the constants includes emotional significance.

Protect in action:  When you ensure something or someone is safe that is to protect.

Protect and inner growth: Diving into the reasons why you naturally protect certain things and people enables inner growth because you gain awareness of that which holds emotional significance to you and also the deeper meanings behind the emotional connection.

Protect and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: Why do I protect when I do? Who or what do I tend to protect?  What have I learned about life through my need to protect certain things?  When did I start protecting the things and people around me?  Why did I start to actively think about how I protect and when?  How has my protecting things and others affected me?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with protect at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of three times you’ve protected someone or something and write about the one that stands out the most in how it affects you emotionally.  Use the words from your list to write a bit about the other two events and then notice what similarities and differences the three events have between them.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about when you protect and notice where they start, where they flow, where they settle, and as you do this visualize a relaxing place. In this moment of relax, imagine a river flowing and all your emotions flowing with it.  When you’re ready let thoughts come to mind too and notice what you think about, as well as how your emotions change.
