Inner Growth Word of the Day: Past

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 2. having existed or taken place in a period before the present. / (n.) 1 a. time gone by.  2 b. something that happened or was done in the past.

Past in a sentence: What our past experiences add to our life is unquantifiable as you move forward thanks to those moments.

Past in action: When something has happened previous to today that is the past.

Past and inner growth: Exploring how past experiences play a role in who you are today can bring about inner growth as you identify the feelings that come with those moments and the things you are doing now thanks to your past.

Past and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I feel when I think of my past? Some of my biggest takeaways from past experiences?  How often do I think about the past?  When did I start thinking about the past?  How does the past play a role in who I am today?  How has the past affected my relationships?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with past at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of one important past event in your life and write about it and how it makes you feel.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about past events and notice where your emotions arise and what types of feelings are most prevalent when thinking about all your past experiences. When you’re ready, focus on the common denominator feeling with all these events.  What’s the word that comes to mind that represents that feeling.
