Inner Growth Word of the Day: Stagnant

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 1 a. not flowing in a current or stream.  1 b. stale.  2. not advancing or developing.

Stagnant in a sentence: When something is stagnant it could be that way for a number of reasons including a component of that something that doesn’t resonate with you.

Stagnant in action: In situations where an event you are working on comes to a stop or a thought you have about a situation reaches a halt, those are stagnant.

Stagnant and inner growth: Anything that you work on or think about that becomes stagnant (at some point in time) can tell you something more about you and bring about inner growth through that knowledge of why things came to a stop and/or if you truly want to pursue this thing or thought because it is a part of who you are.

Stagnant and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does it mean to me to be stagnant? When something is in a stagnant state what’s my typical reason for putting things on hold?  How does being stagnant with some things affect my life?  Do any of my relationships seem stagnant?  If so, why?  What have I learned about life through stagnant days?  Why is knowing more about stagnant situations or thoughts important to me?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with stagnant at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list pick one word that reminds you of an important event or situation that is stagnant.  Then use the rest of the words to write about this event or situation.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about stagnant and allow these emotions to flow throughout you. As you’re doing this, visualize a flowing river and that your emotions are that river.  Notice where the river flows and if there are areas that are a bit rougher than others as your emotions navigate the waters.  When you’re ready also allow thoughts to come in and notice what stagnant situations come to mind.
