Inner Growth Word of the Day: Follower
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 b. one that follows the opinions or teachings of another. 1 c. one that imitates another.
Follower in a sentence: Everyone can be a follower depending on the circumstance.
Follower in action: A person who acts a certain way that is a behavior taken from another or having an opinion on something that is acquired by another is a follower.
Follower and inner growth: Noticing those areas where you are a follower in behavior and/or thought brings you to ask yourself why and understand why. This process leads to inner growth since it allows you to either acquire that behavior and/or thought process completely and truly because it resonates with you or decide to drop it with the knowledge that it was never yours to begin with.
Follower and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: What does it mean to me to be a follower? How has the follower in me played a role in who I am today? When did I first think about the things I did as a follower of someone or something? When am I a follower? Do I judge followers? If so, how and why?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with follower at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of three situations where the follower in you came out and use the words from your list to write about the situation that made the biggest impact in your life.
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about follower aspects within you and let those emotions flow noticing where they come from and where they go. If your feelings seem to settle in certain places visualize them moving on and flowing like a river. When you’re ready allow thoughts to come in and notice what events come to mind, as well as which ones cause a bigger emotional response within you.
