Inner Growth Word of the Day: Reflection

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 6. a thought, idea, or opinion formed or a remark made as a result of meditation.  7. consideration of some subject matter, idea, or purpose.

Reflection in a sentence: When reflection takes place there are many things that can change due to insights gained in that moment.

Reflection in action: Pondering on something, whether it’s a thought that affects your life or an idea you have, are all part of reflection.

Reflection and inner growth: Inner growth would probably not take place were it not due to reflection.  If you do not pause to think about something thoroughly how can you ever come to bring growth or transformation or even just awareness of something.  Thanks to reflection you are able to look at yourself and all that is around you in an explorative way, which then leads you towards inner growth actions and conclusions.

Reflection and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does reflection mean to me? How has reflection affected my life?  When does reflection take place in my day to day?  What have I noticed most about myself in moments of reflection?  What role has reflection played in my relationships?  How has reflection affected my relationships?  What are some of the biggest takeaways I’ve gotten from moments of reflection?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with reflection at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now write a second list of words that represent significant moments of your life where reflection had a significant impact on how those moments turned out.  Out of the words you put down in your second list pick one and use the words from the first list to write about this significant life moment.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about reflection and allow it to flow within you. Try not to think much and just feel.  Notice what emotions stand out the most and visualize them going towards your heart and mind, making it clear how you feel.  Next let thoughts come in and focus on the first thought that crosses your mind, letting the feelings from it do the talking.
