Inner Growth Word of the Day: Belief

 

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1. a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing.  2. something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion.  3. conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence.

 

Belief in a sentence: Your belief guides you in some of the most important decisions of your life.

 

Belief in action: When you trust an idea or person with all your heart that is belief.

 

Belief and inner growth: Your belief affects inner growth in that it affects your decisions and actions.  When you explore each belief you hold, you can find out where and why you hold such beliefs, you can even question them.

 

Belief and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does belief mean to me? When I think of a belief, what comes to mind?  How have my beliefs affected my life? What has changed in time when it comes to your beliefs?  When was the first time you thought about belief and the beliefs that are important to you?

 

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with belief at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Pick one word from your list and expand on how that word reminds you of one of your most important beliefs regarding life.  Use the words from your first list to write about this belief and why it’s so important to you.

 

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about belief and allow those emotions to flow. Try not to think about anything and just focus on what you’re feeling.  Imagine those emotions going from your head to your heart and all the way down to your toes.  When you’re ready let thoughts come in and focus on the first thought that comes to mind.  Allow the feelings from that thought to tell you more about why this specific thought came to mind.
