Why is being patient so hard

The beauty and dilemma of life is the unknown. From the very beginning of when we start thinking, we start dreaming of what our life will be like and as we get older, we learn ways that we can go about to make those dreams a reality. The challenge is waiting and overcoming what seem like obstacles to achieve those dreams. Waiting for things to turn out the way we envision is what makes patience so hard to deal with, but if we look at the entirety of our journey, piece by piece, we find that all that waiting holds a lot of amazing moments and life learning experiences.

As the saying goes, patience is a virtue, and it is one we learn to have as time goes by.  If you want to make it “easier” on yourself to manage that patience, if you want to turn it into something positive, you must start with your perspective regarding patience.

Stop for a moment and look back at one or two things that you worked to obtain throughout your life so far.  As you do this, look at each moment piece by piece and notice all the “tiny” components of that event that brought you to the completion of those things you obtained.  I’m sure that as you’re doing this you are finding a number of amazing things you learned along the way.  I’m also pretty certain that you see aspects of yourself that went through transformation too.

You are who you are today, thanks to everything that led up to you completing the goals you set forth to achieve.  You’ve also learned to let go of that which wasn’t meant to be a part of your life and hopefully, you have understood, at this point in your journey, why those things weren’t meant to be a part of your life.  If on the other hand, you find yourself still holding on to those things, then maybe it’s time you explore why you’re holding on to them and if there’s anything you can do to change this reality.

Patience is something that doesn’t have to be hard if you look at it from the perspective of it actually holding value and not something where you are waiting without a reason.  Every moment of life, no matter what you’re working to achieve, holds substance.  It holds an experience, a feeling, an interaction with someone, an opportunity to learn.  If you see what takes place as you wait for things to unfold, you’ll find mini-things that unfold every second.  You are never really sitting still and waiting, but rather you are actively “achieving” something every minute of the day.

What makes patience hard for you and in what ways have you overcome this?
