Inner Growth Word of the Day: Appreciation

 

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. a feeling or expression of admiration, approval, or gratitude.

 

Appreciation in a sentence: When you feel appreciation towards someone or something, it warms your heart.

 

Appreciation in action: Waking up in the morning and being thankful for all that you have is appreciation.

 

Appreciation and inner growth: When you take a minute to reflect on the appreciation you have for life and the people and/or things that are a part of your life this gives you insights into what you are grateful for.  Being aware of these allows you to explore what holds true value for you, it also brings you to notice those things you may be forgetting that you are also appreciative of.  This type of exploration brings inner growth since it not only makes you aware of what you hold dear and close to your heart, but also of things you can change to extend that appreciation to everything that is around you.

 

Appreciation and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about appreciation? How has appreciation affected my life?  What role has appreciation played in my relationships?  When did I start looking into appreciation?  How have I changed thanks to appreciation?  What’s one of my biggest takeaways from showing appreciation and receiving it?

 

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with appreciation at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From that list pick one word that stands out the most to you.  Write out why it stands out and what specific life event where appreciation was involved it reminds you of.

 

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about appreciation and allow those emotions to take over your body. Notice what feelings stand out the most and when you’re ready let a thought or two flow in.  If there’s anything that stands out from your thoughts, focus on that thought and see what feelings it brings about and how those feelings differ or are similar to the ones you felt in the beginning.
