Inner Growth Word of the Day: Generous

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 2 a. characterized by a noble or kindly spirit.  2 b. liberal in giving.

Generous in a sentence: When someone is generous they tend to also have a giving heart.

Generous in action: Giving to others, to those less fortunate and even to those who have wronged you is being generous.

Generous and inner growth:  Being generous is something that reveals a lot about you and when you take a closer look at the times when you are generous and when you’re not, you can pursue inner growth by understanding why that is and take action to change those things you wish to transform.

Generous and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I define being generous? Has my definition of generous changed in time?  What are some of the actions I’ve taken thanks to my generous nature?  How has being generous affected my relationships?  How has it affected my life?  When was the first time I was generous to a perfect stranger?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with generous at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now pick three words and next to each, put one incident in your life when you were generous.  Expand on each incident by using the words from the first list.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about being generous and allow your emotions to take the lead and alert you. After a couple minutes allow your thoughts to come in and focus on the thought that stands out the most.  Pick the thought that gave you the strongest feeling out of them all.
