Inner Growth Word of the Day: Passion

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 4 b. intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction.  5 b. a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept.

Passion in a sentence: When your passion is your drive you’re headed for an amazing ride.

Passion in action: Pursuing something or someone with an intense feeling that takes over and that you can’t ignore, is passion.

Passion and inner growth: Since passion can be ignored only so long before it causes great unease within you, it is one of those great indicators of what your ‘self’ wants to achieve or obtain.  Exploring each of these passions with in mind the external factors that influence you, so really digging deep to understand if the passion is from your own heart or just an idea put in your mind (by someone or something); helps inner growth since it means not only ensuring the passions you’re pursuing are yours truly, but also eliminating those passions that aren’t yours or at least understanding where they really come from.

Passion and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: When was the first time I noticed a passion I held for something in my life? What does passion mean to me?  How has passion affected my relationships?  How has passion helped me pursue what makes me happy?  What have I learned about myself through my passions?  How have the people around me shared their passions with me?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with passion at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list pick three words that stand out and next to each write one of your passions.  Then expand on each passion and write about what stands out the most about each incident.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about passion and let your emotions flow without thinking much, just feeling. Notice what feelings are more prevalent than others, and after about five minutes or so allow thoughts to come in on those feelings that stood out the most.  Take note of what events or thoughts come to mind as you explore those feelings.
