Inner Growth Word of The Day 131 – Ego

May 11

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Ego

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1. the self especially as contrasted with another self or the world.

Ego in a sentence: Ego is a part of every person and it doesn’t have to take from anyone to exist.

Ego in action: When you see your individuality and uniqueness that is part of the ego.

Ego and inner growth: Even though ego tends to get a bad rap, we wouldn’t be who we are without it.  Diving into our ego helps us to see ourselves and in seeing you can pursue inner growth because you see what you like or would like to change or what you can accept about who you are.  Without awareness of your ego, you can not completely pursue inner growth.

Ego and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about ego? What have I learned about myself thanks to my ego?  How has my ego affected my relationships?  What have I learned about life through my ego?  Has my ego changed throughout the years?  How have my decisions been affected by my ego?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with ego at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list pick one word that stands out to you and write about how it represents your ego in a significant way or why it stood out from the rest.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about ego and allow your emotions to flow without thinking about anything except for your feelings. As those emotions take over notice what feeling is most prevalent among them all and when you’re ready allow thoughts to come in while you focus on that one feeling.  Pin point if there’s one particular event of thing that stands out with that one feeling.
