Inner Growth Word of The Day 116 – Perception

April 26

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Perception

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. a result of perceiving.  1 b. a mental image.  3 a. awareness of the elements of environment through physical sensation.  3 b. physical sensation interpreted in the light of experience.

Perception in a sentence: Our perception of things and people brings about different actions that depend on that perception.

Perception in action: A feeling that comes about from an event, circumstance or encounter and that brings about an image or interpretation of that event, circumstance or encounter is perception.

Perception and inner growth: How we perceive the world, life, and the people around us gives us insights into our feelings and sensations of those things.  When we explore them by asking questions we can achieve inner growth because it gives us insight into those feelings and sensations, which brings awareness and that means we have the opportunity to work with those feelings and sensations.

Perception and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What’s my perception about life? What affects my perception?  What have I learned about myself through the awareness of my perception of things, people, life, and so on?  Has my perception changed in time?  If so, when and what has changed?  When I think about perception, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with perception at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list pick one word that stands out and write about why it stands out and how it relates to your perception.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about perception and allow your emotions to do the talking. Keep your thoughts silent until your feelings are clear.  Then if you notice any particular emotion that stands out, focus on it and explore why it stands out for you (is there a particular event that comes to mind or person, what is this feeling all about).

Your turn – Share your perception sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
