Inner Growth Word of the Day: Hypocrisy

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1. a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not.

Hypocrisy in a sentence: Hypocrisy is indicative of a contradiction between what one says and does or vice versa.

Hypocrisy in action: When you say something and do the opposite or you tell someone not to do one thing, but then you do it that is hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy and inner growth: Taking a look at acts of hypocrisy gives you a starting point and insights on areas of disconnect within yourself, which will lead to inner growth since your exploration will allow you to understand what the disconnect is and resolve it.

Hypocrisy and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I see hypocrisy? How do I feel about hypocrisy?  Am I able to be objective about myself and find areas where I’ve acted with hypocrisy?  Do I judge hypocrisy?  Is my judgement the same when hypocrisy is enacted by others and by me?  What has hypocrisy taught me about life?  What have I learned about myself through hypocrisy?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with hypocrisy at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now write down one event that’s happened in your life where hypocrisy was involved.  Write about this event using the words from your first list.  When you’re done choose one word that represents the essence of that moment you’ve experienced.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about hypocrisy and hone in on it without accompanying thoughts. Once the feeling becomes clear, allow thoughts to cross your mind and focus on the first thought that passes by and the feeling it brings about.  From here let your emotions do the talking; and when you’re ready, move on to another thought of something that has happened where hypocrisy was involved.

Your turn – Share your hypocrisy sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
