Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1. aid, assistance. 2. a source of aid. 3. remedy, relief. 4 a. one who serves or assists another.
Help in a sentence: There’s nothing wrong in seeking help or providing help to someone in need.
Help in action: When you assist someone, or need assistance in something, you’re giving or asking for help.
Help and inner growth: Looking at how you give or ask for help is something that brings inner growth because it allows you to explore yourself and the trust you give humanity. Trust to be able and rely on others if you’re in need, and trust in that you are willing to give something in order to help others.
Help and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about asking for help? What have I learned about myself from giving help to someone? How has help affected my life? Has my idea of help changed throughout the years? If so, in what way? Do I judge myself for needing help? Do I give help to others willingly? How do I decide who to help? In what ways do I help myself?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with help at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Pick four of the words you listed and for two words put down an instance where you asked for help, while for the other two put down two instances where you’ve given help to someone. Pick one from each group and write about what was so important about those moments.
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about help and silence your mind as much as possible. After letting your emotions speak up, let thoughts come in and focus on that first thought that comes to mind. You want to pay attention to how it makes you feel before you move on to any other thought. Do this for as long as you’d like and with as many moments where you gave or needed help (that come to mind as you sit quietly).
