Inner Growth Word of the Day: Unfriendly
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 1. not friendly. 1 a. hostile. 1 b. inhospitable, unfavorable.
Unfriendly in a sentence: Meeting unfriendly people isn’t always ideal, but it can still be quite insightful and interesting.
Unfriendly in action: Someone or something that presents itself in a hostile way or that is closed off and not welcoming is considered unfriendly.
Unfriendly and inner growth: When dealing with an unfriendly situation or person, staying neutral allows you to keep an open mind, and will lead you to uncover things about the situation or person and also about yourself that you would have not otherwise seen. If you are the unfriendly person, then exploring what creates hostility towards others or circumstances is a great place to start for steps towards inner growth.
Unfriendly and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: Have I ever been unfriendly? If so, when and why? How did being unfriendly affect my life? Do I like being unfriendly? Have I met unfriendly people? How did it make me feel to be around unfriendly people? Was I able to change the unfriendliness somehow? What’s one thing I always do when in an unfriendly situation?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with unfriendly at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now make a list of the opposite words to what you listed in the first list. Is there a pattern of how you feel depending on the list?
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about unfriendly and let the feelings flow, but make a note of the things and/or people that come to mind as you’re thinking about unfriendliness.
