Inner Growth Word of the Day: Arrogance
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1. exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one’s own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner. 2. showing an offensive attitude of superiority.
Arrogance in a sentence: Arrogance is something you can encounter any day, but it is also something you can portray yourself.
Arrogance in action: When you think you’re better than someone else or act superior to others, arrogance is the only thing others will see.
Arrogance and inner growth: Encountering arrogance in others can allow you to remember that how you feel about yourself depends on you and not on somebody else’s sense of worth. You’re also able to put into practice this self-appreciation attitude and feeling. Now, if you’re the arrogant one on the other hand, then you have an opportunity to explore why that is and what is missing.
Arrogance and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: Do I encounter arrogance? How often? Have I displayed arrogance? If yes, in what circumstances and with whom? What do I think about arrogance? What have I learned from arrogance in life? Have I hurt anybody with my arrogance or someone me?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with arrogance at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. With the words that you’ve listed write for each one a person and/or yourself that relates to the word. Next write a story with those two lists. Where does it take you?
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about arrogance and acknowledge the types of feelings that come by, as well as what events come to mind from your day to day life. As those feelings flow, if there are any uncomfortable ones, hone in on those and come back to explore them at a later date.
