Inner Growth Word of the Day: Challenges
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 3. a stimulating task or problem.
Challenges in a sentence: Facing decision making moments and different tasks or problems creates a number of challenges in people’s day to day lives.
Challenges in action: Something that is intricate or difficult to complete presents one with a challenge that can be quite stimulating depending on one’s mindset.
Challenges and inner growth: Challenges come in different shapes and sizes, but it’s how you face the tasks or problems at hand that gets you to your next steps.
Challenges and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about challenges? Do I find them stimulating, positive or the opposite? How have I faced some of my challenges so far? Have I learned anything thanks to my challenges? When I think of my challenges up to this day, is there one that stands out more than the others? If so, why is that? What advice would I give the me from five years ago about challenges; particularly, the one from five years ago that I remember clearly?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with challenges at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Do you notice an emotional pattern in the choice of words you’ve associated to it? If so, express what the emotional connotation is in one word. Now, list one to five personal challenges and how you faced each one, actively (through your actions) and emotionally (your feelings as you worked through it).
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about challenges and let them flow, while trying to understand what they represent and what they say about your relationship with challenges. From the previous action step, you should already be in a bit of a feeling mode with your perception of challenges and the feelings with ones you’ve been through, which should help with this exercise.
