Inner Growth Word of the Day: Acceptance definition: (n.) 1. the act of taking or receiving something offered.  2. favorable reception; approval; favor.  3. the act of assenting or believing: acceptance of a theory.  4. the fact or state of being accepted or acceptable.


Acceptance in a sentence: If enough people agree on an idea, generally, acceptance of that idea also extends to others.


Acceptance in action: When you approve of something or someone that is one instance where acceptance has taken place.


Acceptance and inner growth: Taking a look at your acceptance of things, ideas, people, and events can uncover hidden messages and/or feelings that will lead to inner growth through your exploration of these (in context to that which you have accepted).


Acceptance and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does acceptance mean to me? Does it automatically imply complete agreement on my end?  Does acceptance take place even when I have some doubt about someone or something?  How do I feel about the state of being accepted by others?  Do I need acceptance by others?  Is there anything that I’ve accepted in my life that I find I no longer accept today?  Why and what does this say about me?


  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with acceptance at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Do you find words that place acceptance in circumstances that involve people more than ideas or things?  Next make a list of one to five things you have accepted in the past that you no longer accept today.  Now do the same, but in the opposite way; so list one to five things you previously did not accept that you accept today.


  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about acceptance and try to notice if those feelings are of a more personal nature, so geared towards your feelings about your acceptance by others; or if it is a mix of acceptance by others, you accepting others, and acceptance of things, ideas, events, and so on. If mixed emotions arise, pause to reflect and allow those feelings to express themselves more so that you may dive into them at a deeper level.
