Inner Growth Word of the Day: Reality

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 2 a1. a real (real definition: 2 a. not artificial, fraudulent, or illusory.) event, entity, or state of affairs. 2 a2. the totality of real things and events. 2 b. something that is neither derivative nor dependent but exists necessarily.

Reality in a sentence: Reality is a part of everyday life and human interactions.

Reality in action: Things that happen and ‘entities’ are defined as reality based on deciding factors of what reality is by the world at large.

Reality and inner growth: The way you can pursue inner growth thanks to reality is by exploring the different facets of reality.  Even though the world defines it as a set thing, contemplating different realities brings you heightened awareness of the numerous possibilities your perspective can envision.  This multifaceted perspective can then be applied to you and your personal characteristics.

Reality and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What is reality to me? What does reality mean to me?  Do I think of reality as fixed or is there wiggle room for my imagination to travel elsewhere?  Is it easy for me to think of there being no reality set in stone or is it hard?    Does reality provide me with a sense of security?  Have I ever thought anything opposite of what reality finds that thought/thing to be?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with reality at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now write the total opposite of all those words, reality included.  Next, think about one event, entity or thing that someone else or a group of people define as a reality and write down your perspective on why it isn’t real, then write one of why it is.  What do you see in this mixed exercise?

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about reality. What’s the first feeling that arises?  How about at the thought of there being no reality whatsoever?  As you maintain your focus with reality and the feelings that are going by, what’s a word or thought that passes by?  Are you able to let your feelings flow as you go through this or do you need to stop to reenergize?
