Inner Growth Word of the Day: Truth

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 2 a1. the state of being the case: fact. 2 a2. the body of real things, events, and facts: actuality. 2 a3. often capitalized: a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality. 2 b. a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true. 2 c. the body of true statements and propositions. 3 a. the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality.

Truth in a sentence: So many interpretations of truth that it makes it hard to know what truth is, or maybe truth is every interpretation.

Truth in action: Saying what is fact to you is truth for as much as you know; the same way truth is also what is fact or has been accepted as true by others or a group.

Truth and inner growth: Truth helps inner growth when you focus on your truths and where they come from.  If there is no exploration of truth, then it will not assist you in learning more about yourself or going beyond in your journey.

Truth and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does truth mean to me? Do I acknowledge more than one truth or is there one truth and one truth alone?  How have I decided on my truths?  Who influences my truths and what I decide is truth or not?  How do I feel when truth is absent?  How do I recognize when truth is present?  What have I learned from telling the truth?  How about from not telling the truth?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with truth at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now make a list of the opposites for each word listed, including the word truth.  Pick one life event that embodies what truth means to you and one where the life event embodies the opposite.  Write down your reasons for doing what you did in the truth life event and then the opposite of truth life event.  What stands out?

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about truth in general, on truth according to you, and truth according to someone you disagree with (on their notion of truth). As you shift focus, notice what types of feelings come about and the level of impact they make on you.
