Inner Growth Word of the Day: Satisfaction

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 2 a. fulfillment of a need or want. 2 b. the quality or state of being satisfied: contentment. 2 c. a source or means of enjoyment:  gratification.

Satisfaction in a sentence: Satisfaction plays a very important role in the happiness of life for individuals and it is also a great source of motivation.

Satisfaction in action: Satisfaction is seen in your smile, when you’ve been able to obtain something you’ve wanted for some time.

Satisfaction and inner growth: If you think of the needs or wants you’ve fulfilled that have brought about satisfaction, it’s a good place to start exploring why those needs or wants were so important for you to obtain.  As you think this through, inner growth can happen because you find out more about how or if those needs and wants are tied to your fulfillment.

Satisfaction and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: Is satisfaction something I strive for? If so, how?  Is satisfaction something that comes from within (for me) or external factors?  Do others play a role in my level of satisfaction?  If yes, what kind of role?  How influential is what I do to my sense of satisfaction?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with satisfaction at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now think of the first time you experienced satisfaction in your life.  Notice if the event that happened match the feelings of the words you associate to satisfaction or if there’s a disconnect.  If there’s a disconnect rewrite the event that you thought of with the words you listed.  If there’s still a disconnect with the words, make a new list of words based on the event that you thought of.  Then take note of what these two different lists of words can tell you about your inner feelings with satisfaction.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about satisfaction and let them flow. If life events start coming to mind notice if there are different levels of satisfaction between them, different feelings.  If there are try to let the feelings of each flow and then pause to reflect on the different sets of feelings and explore why you think this is, why this difference.
