Inner Growth Word of The Day 12 – Structure

January 12

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Structure

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 4 b. organization of parts as dominated by the general character of the whole. 4 c. coherent form or organization.

Structure in a sentence: Children are given structure so that they may integrate into the ways of the world.

Structure in action: Society can work together thanks to the building blocks that make up its structure.

Structure and inner growth:  A look at the structures you grew up with can help you identify why you do some of the things you do, and even why you think some of the things you think.

Structure and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How does structure play a role in who I am? When I think of structure in my life, who or what comes to mind?  Is structure different for me today than it was five years ago?  If yes, how so?  When I look at my personality structure what do I see?  What about when I think of societal structure?  Do I think structure is necessary?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with structure at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now use those words to write a story about your personality structure and then a second story with those same words about societal structure.  Between the two stories is there a difference in the way they play out and the feelings surrounding them?  Also, when you look at the list of words you wrote down, do you notice a pattern in the types of words you associate to structure?  If so, what’s the pattern?

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about structure and take note if you feel light, heavy or neutral. What about when you think of its role in your life?  As you focus attention on your feelings, do you notice any areas of your body signaling for attention? What about if you thought of losing all structure?  What feelings do you notice then?
