Inner Growth Word of The Day 13 – Existence

January 13

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Existence

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 b. reality as presented in experience. 1 d. sentient or living being.

Existence in a sentence: Contemplating existence depends on our curiosity about life and our experiences.

Existence in action: When you notice the wind blowing through your hair or a child’s smile from afar, when you think about a day’s work or last night’s family dinner; all of these and more comprise existence.

Existence and inner growth: It is very possible that a journey towards inner growth has some basis in the exploration of existence.  Awareness of existence brings humans to talk about life, which also brings about questions to meaning and/or purpose, and these consequently lead to questions about one’s own meaning and purpose.

Existence and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does existence mean to me? How has talking about it affected my life?  Do I think about existence naturally or is the thought triggered by specific events or situations?  What do I like most about existence?  What do I like the least?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with existence at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Write a short story about existence as if it were a person, how does the story play out?  Then write a short story with the words in your list, but this time focus your story on your own existence.  Does anything stand out between the two stories?

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about existence; do you notice anything unique about them? Do you allow your feelings to flow freely or do you end up diverting your attention elsewhere?  Is there something that excites or saddens you when it comes to existence?  Explore whatever feelings come to be without judgement and if questions or thoughts come to mind, notice what feelings are associated to those and bring your focus back to how that ties in with your feelings about existence.

Your turn – Share your existence sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
