Inner Growth Thought of the Day: Awareness Of Layers & Filters

Having awareness of the layers and filters that affect your day-to-day interactions and life experiences isn’t something that is always in the forefront, but when it becomes part of what you see, the world around you gains a whole new depth.


With your inner-self components visible (judgements, culture, mindset, opinions, self-love, etc.) you have a clearer view of how you affect a situation, but also a clearer view on what the event or person involved in the situation is expressing.


Here are some ways to keep those layers and filters that are a part of you in the forefront as you pursue inner growth.


  1. Make a list of the layers of yourself you are aware of (culture, opinions, societal roles, stereotypes, etc.) and for each layer identify two to three ways the layer adds a filter to how you see things, react to things, interpret things (people, events, thoughts, conversations, etc.).


  1. Throughout your daily interactions make a note of the things that bother you and identify what layer and/or filters are involved in that particular interaction that bothered you.


  1. Any important event that takes place throughout the week, take five to 10 minutes to think about the “story” (the situation) from minimum two sides (two separate perspectives).
