Inner Growth Thought of the Day: Letting Your Guard Down
When defensiveness takes place it is similar to how people talk about resistance and focus on those things you don’t want, which then end up coming more and more your way. With life being an experience that you can learn from every day, when you keep your guard up this means you are blinded to seeing things of you and the world at large.
Letting your guard down (in a way that is comfortable to you and in tune with your heart) gets you to slowly bring your fears to awareness, face them; and also, stay open to life’s uncertainty as things come your way.
Here are some ways to noticing when you’re letting your guard down or not, and how you can work with yourself to release defensiveness.
- Make a list of things you are defensive about and next to each rate them from 1-10 on how they affect your inner harmony. In order of highest to lowest, think about one way you envision being able to release that defensiveness.
- Think of the feeling that you get when you are letting your guard down and apply that feeling to the defensive aspects you’re working on from your list above and anything else you notice is something you’re being defensive about.
- Anytime you notice you get defensive about something or someone, go within (inner self exploration moment) for about 5 minutes and ask yourself questions regarding this defensive reaction (is it fear, ego, worry, etc.). With knowledge you can decide what to do next.
Your turn – Share your inner growth thought of the day, a sentence, life examples, or action steps you take with new beginnings 😊
