Inner Growth Word of The Day 243 – Friend

August 31

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Friend

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. one attached to another by affection or esteem.

Friend in a sentence: Those who are friends may also be family depending on the bond you have with them.

Friend in action: A person you confide in or go out with, or someone that you cherish in a special way are all types of friends.

Friend and inner growth: Exploring the types of friends you surround yourself with and what you consider a friendship share various types of inner insights, some of these include identifying how you value yourself and relationships.  Through this awareness you gain inner growth as you get to dig deeper into those ideas and transform them as you go along, through actions in the new friendships you make and how you see relationships.

Friend and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What is a friend? How do I choose my friends?  How do I define a friend?  When was the first time I made a friend?  Who was it and am I still friends with them?  How have my friends affected my life?  How have I affected my friends in how I treat friendships?  What have I learned from friends?  Are my friends my family too?  Do I have expectations from friends?  If so, what expectations?  Do they have expectations of me?  If so, what expectations?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with friend at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list write about the first friend you recall making and one new friend you never thought you’d make for one reason or another.  What makes these two friendships special?

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about friend and let these emotions take over, spreading from head to toe. If you notice some emotions staying in one or more places visualize them moving along smoothly.  As you do this and sit in silence, allow the feelings to arise reaching your heart and then your mind.  When you’re ready allow thoughts to come in and notice who comes to mind or what thoughts about friends come to mind.
