Inner Growth Word of the Day: Individuality

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. total character peculiar to and distinguishing an individual from others.  1 b. personality.

Individuality in a sentence: A person’s individuality becomes more obvious when you focus on certain specifics.

Individuality in action: Those behaviors and characteristics that are unique to you are your individuality.

Individuality and inner growth: A look at what your individuality encompasses gives you the possibility to explore how you interact with others and yourself, and what things you could look to modify if need be so that you can maintain your individuality but without affecting anyone else’s individuality.  Individuality and inner growth go hand in hand as your individuality is what makes you, you; but you also want to relate to others which is where awareness of your individuality helps.

Individuality and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does individuality mean to me? How has individuality affected my relationships?  Why do I think about individuality?  When was the first time I noticed my individuality and how did that make me feel?  Who has affected my individuality and how?  What have I learned about life thanks to my individuality?  How has my individuality affected where I am today?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with individuality at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now pick three of the words that remind you of characteristics that are part of your individuality.  Next choose one word and write about how this characteristic has affected your inner growth.  Use the other words from your list to write about this experience.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about individuality and notice where they stem from and where they go. Is the flow smooth or rocky?  As you pay attention to this, visualize a river in a lovely area and the sun shining, it’s a beautiful day.  Now allow your feelings to flow down the river and when you are ready let thoughts come in.  Notice which of your individuality traits come to mind first and notice how they make you feel.
