Inner Growth Word of the Day: Inner drive

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: inner – (adj.) within and/or of or relating to the mind or spirit; drive – (v.) 5 a. to exert inescapable or coercive pressure on.  5 d. to press or force into an activity, course, or direction.

Inner drive in a sentence: Your inner drive is what gets you to take action and it’s what gives a voice to the things you desire most.

Inner drive in action: When the things you do are actions that come from the heart, that’s inner drive.

Inner drive and inner growth: Knowing what your inner drive is brings you to pursue inner growth because it is this type of exploration that allows you to know if you are leading from within or not.  You also identify those things which force you to take action; with this awareness, you can also explore these things individually and in doing so gain even further insight into what drives you and if it really comes from within.

Inner drive and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does inner drive mean to me? When was the first time I thought about what my inner drive was?  How has my inner drive affected the things I do?  What learning lessons has my inner drive imparted on me so far?  How has my inner drive affected my life?  Who or what influences my inner drive?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with inner drive at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list pick one word and think about one instance where inner drive was present.  Use the word you chose to expand on the story and explore how or why this specific word made you think of this specific moment in your life.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about inner drive and let them flow from head to toe without thinking, just feeling. As this happens bring your mind to your heart and visualize your breathing in and out, notice how this focus affects your emotions, and when you’re ready let thoughts come in.  Pay attention to the first thought that comes to mind and allow the feelings from it to speak for this thought.
