Inner Growth Word of the Day: Aspiration

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. a strong desire to achieve something high or great.  1 b. an object of such desire.

Aspiration in a sentence: When you have an aspiration you naturally pursue it through your actions in your day to day.

Aspiration in action: Wanting to achieve something or wanting to have something are both an aspiration.

Aspiration and inner growth: A look at your aspirations can give you the opportunity to explore the different desires you hold close and dear to your heart.  Taking a look at what you’re doing to achieve them or how you feel about the ones you might not have achieved yet or may have given up on.  As you do this, inner growth comes about with the discoveries of what these aspirations mean to you, which ones might not really be yours, as well as maybe self-sabotage for a reason or another in obtaining, and so on.

Aspiration and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does aspiration mean to me? How do I feel about aspirations?  What are my aspirations?  Are some more significant than others?  What do I do and what have I done to achieve my aspirations?  Have I given up on any particular aspiration?  If so, why?  What was one of my first aspirations?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with aspiration at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now list three to five aspirations you have and next to each place one or more of the words from your first list. For each aspiration listed, with the words you put next to each, write out a short narrative of a day where you dedicate your efforts to fulfill that aspiration.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about aspiration and notice what that feeling is, where it starts from and where it goes as you allow it to express itself without interruptions. After about five minutes allow your thoughts to come to mind and for each dedicate a little time to allow the feelings associated to that thought to take over and flow.  If there’s one thought that stands out more than the others, spend a bit more time on it.
