Inner Growth Word of The Day 80 – Judgmental

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Judgmental

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 1. of, relating to, or involving judgment.  2. characterized by a tendency to judge harshly.

Judgmental in a sentence: Being judgmental can bring about any number of feelings by those who are judging and being judged.

Judgmental in action: Having a strong opinion about something or someone and acting accordingly is judgmental on the part of the person holding that opinion.

Judgmental and inner growth: Being judgmental is something worth exploring because you want to take an in-depth look at those strong opinions.  You want to find out where they come from and how they affect you so that you may pursue inner growth.  This dive into your judgmental thoughts can bring about changes of opinions, as well as make clear why you have formulated those judgments in the first place.

Judgmental and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about being judgmental? What does being judgmental mean to me?  Do I attribute positive or negative feelings to being judgmental?  If so, why is that?  What have I learned from being judgmental?  What have I learned from others being judgmental?  How has being judgmental affected my life?  How has it affected those around me?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with judgmental at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From your list pick five words that bring to mind a specific moment when you were being judgmental.  Out of those five picks is there one that stands out more than the others?  If so, which one and why?

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about being judgmental and try to stay as neutral as possible (when doing this). Allow your feelings to express themselves, but keep an eye out for any that seem stands out.  When you’re done, allow for those secondary feelings and thoughts to come to mind and explore each one at a time.

Your turn – Share your judgmental sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
