Inner Growth Word of The Day 70 – Obstacles

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Obstacles

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) something that impedes progress or achievement.

Obstacles in a sentence: Obstacles can slow down reaching an end result, but you may just learn something thanks to the added time it took you to obtain your goal.

Obstacles in action: When something or someone delays you from obtaining something you’ve set your mind to achieve, you find yourself faced with an obstacle.

Obstacles and inner growth: Obstacles present challenges and frustrations to overcome, giving you an opportunity to stretch your boundaries and look at things from a different perspective.  This opportunity can bring inner growth by allowing you to learn more about yourself and increase your level of flexibility, which in turn help you to see beyond what is in front of you.

Obstacles and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about obstacles? How do I feel about the obstacles I’ve faced?  What have I learned from the obstacles that have come my way?  How do I handle obstacles?  Has the way I see obstacles and face them changed in any way?  If so, how and when?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with obstacles at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now make a list of one to five obstacles you’ve faced and use the words from your first list to describe each obstacle you listed in your second list.  Lastly, from the one to five obstacles name one or two things that you’ve learned from them.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about obstacles and try to allow the initial feeling to run its course without interruptions or thoughts. After about five minutes allow other feelings and thoughts to take their course and spend a little extra time on the feelings and thoughts that stand out the most.
