Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (v.) 2. to be able to do, make, or accomplish.
Can in a sentence: There are plenty of things people think they can’t do that they probably can do, if they believe enough in themselves.
Can in action: To believe or think that you are able to do something means you believe you can.
Can and inner growth: Inner growth is all about looking within and when you look at the things you believe you can do this says a lot about what you believe in yourself. The same goes for the things you think you can’t do. As you explore your “can” dos, your “can’t” dos will surface as well. These you want to explore too and find out why it is you believe you “can’t” do them.
Can and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: How has a can mindset affected my life? When I think I can, what actions do I take that I wouldn’t otherwise take? How do I feel when I don’t think I can? How do I feel when I think I can? Do the people in my life support a can mindset? What have I learned thanks to the actions I took because I thought I could? How would my life be different if I didn’t think “I can”?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with can at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now create a second list with at least five things you’ve done thanks to your can mindset. Create a third list of up to five things you think you can’t do and next to them assign them words from your first list and then pick one to write about with a can attitude.
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about can and make note of the first type of feeling that stands out the most. As you sit quietly, notice what thoughts cross your mind, but without focusing on the thoughts per se, but always more the feelings they provoke. Also, make note of the changes in your feelings (if there are any) as you’re doing this.
