Inner Growth Word of the Day: Needy

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 2. marked by want of affection, attention, or emotional support.

Needy in a sentence: Everyone can be needy at times, especially if at a low and going through a tough time.

Needy in action: Someone who looks elsewhere for support and affection is needy.

Needy and inner growth:  When needy, it’s important to understand if the affection and support wanted from others is because of a lack of self-love and support.  If this is the case, then inner growth can come from finding one’s own self-love and support.

Needy and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: Am I needy? If so why?  How has being needy affected my life?  How has it affected others?  What does being needy mean to me?  How do I see people who are needy?  Have I met people who are needy?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with needy at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Next to the words listed, write situations for each in which that word would apply.  Now make a list of moments in your life where you were needy.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about being needy and allow them to flow, while also noticing if you are applying judgement to those feelings. Try to remove judgement if it’s there and let your thoughts flow along with the feelings that are coming by.  What stands out about your feelings?
