Inner Growth Word of the Day: Growth

 

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a1. a stage in the process of growing: size.  1 a2. full growth.  1 b. the process of growing.  1 c. progressive development: evolution.  1 d. increase, expansion.

 

Growth in a sentence: When growth happens in a non-physical sense, it involves evolution of personality traits and/or thought processes (to name a few things) that have gone through a transformation, usually considered positive.

 

Growth in action: As we get older, growth takes place on many levels, some of which include maturity and an increased level of information that we use to make life decisions.

 

Growth and inner growth: If you explore the aspects of yourself that have gone through growth, you can identify what areas of your inner self are more affected by the things that happen to you in life and also what areas are absent that you could look to grow, if you choose to do so.

 

Growth and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What aspects of myself have gone through growth? What aspects haven’t?  Do I tend to see growth in personality traits?  How about in my thought process or choices?  What is the biggest reason for my growth?  Can I identify one reason or more than one?  How do the areas of growth and the reason for growth relate to each other?  Do I notice a pattern that indicates areas I am not growing in?

 

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with growth at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Group those words into categories based on periods of time or emotional reactions and/or feelings associated to each word grouping.  Next make a list of five things you think require growth and why you want that for yourself.  When you’re thinking about the why, write a story alongside it with you already having achieved that growth.  When your story is done, take note of how that would impact who you are and your life today.

 

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about growth trying your best to allow them to flow while noticing the first thought that crossed your mind as you initiated the exercise, and if you felt a sense of relief, joy, or maybe nostalgia in those initial moments. As you continue with the exercise also make note of the specific memories that pass by as you think of growth.
