Inner Growth Word of the Day: Feeling


Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: 1 a1.  the one of the basic physical senses of which the skin contains the chief end organs and of which the sensations of touch and temperature are characteristic:  touch. 1 a2.  a sensation experienced through this sense. 1 b.  generalized bodily consciousness or sensationc: appreciative or responsive awareness or recognition. 2 a. an emotional state or reaction.


Feeling in a sentence: All people have a feeling about something as long as they’re living.


Feeling in action: When you experience a moment of joy or sadness, or when you feel the cold snow on your skin; those are all feelings.


Feeling and inner growth: When it comes to emotional feelings we can pursue inner growth because each feeling is a reaction or state of being that has a trigger we can identify, which we can then also explore.


Feeling and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What does feeling mean to me? Both in a physical sense and in an emotional sense?  When I think about my feelings, what’s the first thought that comes to mine or the first word?  What are the different feelings I’ve felt that I can easily identify?  How do I affect my feelings?  How do others affect my feelings?


  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with feeling at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now make two lists of feelings you like more and feelings you like less; then write out why for each word and set of lists.  Lastly, from the words you associate with feeling, write out a short story to see how you’d have these feelings play out in a life scenario.


  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about feeling. Do you notice if there are any moments where you aren’t allowing feelings to flow freely?  It’s good to explore those areas where you notice yourself resisting their full expression because it’s an indication of something that you are holding back on with yourself.  The sooner you explore it, the sooner you can understand and resolve the blockage (if you want to).
