How do you keep focus within (inside of you) when you encounter external inputs (dealing with people and situations)? This is one of those questions that I get various answers to and that is quite the challenge since living life means external inputs at all times, which also means initial reacting to things and so a first inclination to focus on what is outside of you.

Inner Growth Thought of the Day: Maintaining Focus Within

How do you keep focus within (inside of you) when you encounter external inputs (dealing with people and situations)?  This is one of those questions that I get various answers to and that is quite the challenge since living life means external inputs at all times, which also means initial reacting to things and so a first inclination to focus on what is outside of you.

 

While there needs to be awareness and coexistence of that external part, the people that are a part of it and situations you can’t control, when you put your energy into changing or working with those others, you end up missing out on understanding that different perspective, as well as not seeing the hidden lesson that you can learn about yourself through an exploration of your reaction and feelings to the situation and/or person.

 

Here are some ways that can help stay focused within for the pursuit of your inner growth journey when in situations that aren’t ideal at a first interaction.

 

  1. As soon as you catch yourself blaming/paying attention to others or a situation for things going a certain way, bring your focus to you and ask what you can do to bring balance to your emotions in the moment.

 

  1. Ask that hard question: Why am I focusing and putting energy in things outside of me and my control? How does this help me and my inner growth journey?

 

  1. Inner calm in the moment allows you to open up and absorb information. Plus, the inner conversation you have with yourself adds that inner growth component as you gain awareness of you.
