Inner Growth Word of The Day 317 – Pattern

November 13

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Pattern

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 7. a reliable sample of traits, acts, tendencies, or other observable characteristics of a person, group, or institution.

Pattern in a sentence: Everyone has at least one pattern in their day to day behavior, what’s yours?

Pattern in action: Those characteristics of how you deal with challenges in your life, they are a pattern.

Pattern and inner growth: Knowing what areas you have a pattern in and exploring your patterns as you notice them give you the opportunity to pursue inner growth by getting to know why you do the things you do sometimes, but also because it means you can remove your patterns from the equation and/or change them and/or understand how you affect situations.

Pattern and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What is one pattern that stands out the most to me? When did I notice my patterns in different life situations?  How have my patterns affected my life?  What have I learned about life from my patterns?  Have my patterns affected my relationships?  When was the first time I was able to identify my pattern in the moment?  Which patterns have I changed in time?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with pattern at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of the pattern that makes the biggest difference in your life today.  Write about it with the words from your list.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about your pattern in life. As you sit in silence notice what emotions first arise, where they go, how they affect you.  After about five minutes, allow questions or thoughts to cross your mind and see what types of emotional changes come about as you answer or ponder these questions.
