Inner Growth Word of the Day: Sidetracked

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (v.) 2 a. to turn aside from a purpose.  2 b. to prevent action on by diversionary tactics.

Sidetracked in a sentence: Getting sidetracked can be indicative of much more than a simple deviation of plans depending on how the situation plays out in time.

Sidetracked in action: When you switch plans for unexpected events that prevent you from pursuing that plan, that is sidetracked.

Sidetracked and inner growth: Exploring the situations that got sidetracked bring about inner growth because as you look at how you deal with getting sidetracked and if you pick back up or not those things that you got sidetracked about you find out how you deal with the unforeseen, but also how you get back to doing something if you really want it or if you don’t why not and what does it mean.

Sidetracked and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: When was the first time I got sidetracked? How does getting sidetracked affect me?  Why do I get sidetracked?  What have I learned about myself with getting sidetracked? How often do I get sidetracked from the things I love to do?  Who helps me to avoid getting sidetracked?  How has getting sidetracked affected my relationships?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with sidetracked at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of three times you were sidetracked and what you did about it to get back on track.  Write about the one event that affected you the most using the words from your list.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about when you get sidetracked and as you allow them to flow, notice if they evenly flow or if they tend to go to specific areas of your body. As you sit in silence focus on those areas of your body where the energy feels most active and visualize a water fall and the water as it continues along down the stream.  Next allow thoughts to come in and do the same with the feelings that arise.
