Inner Growth Word of the Day: Meaningful


Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) 1 a. having a meaning or purpose.


Meaningful in a sentence: Something meaningful in your life can be significant to you, but hold no value to someone else.


Meaningful in action: When something or someone is important to you that is being meaningful.


Meaningful and inner growth: Exploring what and who is meaningful to you gives you insights into the things that make you happy, which also allows you to pin point what doesn’t; and as you look to these different things you are able to pursue inner growth by making active decisions on how to incorporate more meaningful events and people in your life versus the opposite.


Meaningful and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word meaningful? When was the first time I identified someone or something as meaningful?  Who do I find meaningful to where I am today?  Why is something or someone meaningful to me?  How have my meaningful relationships affected my life?  Has there been anything meaningful that I learned a lot from?


  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with meaningful at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of one thing and one person that are meaningful to you.  Next write about each one with the words from your list.  What are some similarities between the two in how they are meaningful to you?


  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about meaningful and let your emotions flow throughout you without thinking much, solely focus on the sensations that you are experiencing. Notice where your feelings go and where they start.  As you do this, if you find that some emotions settle in one or more areas of your body, visualize them flowing down river into the big blue ocean.  When you’re ready, let thoughts come in and pay attention to those meaningful events and thoughts that provoke the biggest emotional response.
