Inner Growth Word of the Day: Multifaceted

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (adj.) having many facets (facet: (n.) 2. any of the definable aspects that make up a subject (as of contemplation) or an object (as of consideration)) or aspects.

Multifaceted in a sentence: Many things can be multifaceted, as can someone’s behavior and this means becoming aware of all the aspects that are a part of that thing or behavior.

Multifaceted in action: When someone expresses a variety of aspects within a personality trait or when a situation has many sides to it, that is multifaceted.

Multifaceted and inner growth: Multifaceted aspects allow you to explore the different components and layers to your person (behavior, tendencies, beliefs, etc.) and/or situations (life events).  This gives insights into all the parts of who you are or of the situation.  With this type of information, inner growth is created thanks to the awareness you have, which then allows you to not only understand yourself and the events that take place in your life better, but also to take actions on what you’d like to change.

Multifaceted and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about my multifaceted traits? How do I deal with multifaceted situations?  When was the first time I experienced a multifaceted situation?  Who comes to mind when I think about multifaceted behavior?  What types of things are multifaceted in my life?  How have my multifaceted traits affected my relationships?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with multifaceted at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Create a second list with two events that were multifaceted and use the words from your first list to write about these events and why they are so important to you.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about multifaceted traits and allow those emotions to flow throughout your body while noticing where the feelings arise from and where they go. If you notice a concentration of those feelings in any particular part of your body, focus on evenly redistributing those feelings elsewhere.  When you’re ready let thoughts come to mind regarding multifaceted traits that are a part of you and see what emotions arise from these thoughts.
