Inner Growth Word of the Day: Self-love

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) love of self.

Self-love in a sentence: To love one’s self isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but it is always something we can learn to do in time.

Self-love in action: When you put yourself and what makes you happy in the forefront of the life decisions you make and the actions you take to ensure you are in harmony within, that is self-love.

Self-love and inner growth: Self-love is important to inner growth because without it, you might not even be searching for inner growth.  Self-love is what motivates you to look deep within when something doesn’t feel right and it is actually what also triggers a light telling you that something isn’t right.  The hard part is for those who think they don’t deserve self-love, being able to overcome this challenge and know that they, like everybody else, deserve love and should always follow a path that leads to inner joy and peace.

Self-love and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about self-love? Do I have self-love?  Was it easy for me to pursue choices based on self-love?  What have I learned about myself thanks to self-love?  How has self-love affected my life and relationships?  When did I start paying attention to self-love?  How is self-love reflected in my actions?  What’s one of my biggest takeaways from an experience of self-love that I witnessed?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with self-love at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now think of the most important aspect of self-love and write it out.  Next think of one self-love decision that represents this aspect and write about it using the words from the list of words you wrote out.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about self-love and allow those emotions to take over. Keep silence in the forefront and only focus on the feelings that are going about as you sit.  Once you identify the message of those feelings, allow thoughts to come by and focus your attention on the first self-love experience that comes to mind.  Allow the feelings of that experience to do the talking and move on to another self-love experience when you’re ready.
