Inner Growth Word of The Day 91 – Self-awareness

April 1

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Self-awareness

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) an awareness of one’s own personality or individuality

Self-awareness in a sentence: There are different levels of self-awareness that we can all experience; it all depends how deep you want to look when exploring your inner-self and personality.

Self-awareness in action: When you are fully conscious of your character, feelings, motives, desires and all else related to your inner self, personality and uniqueness; then you have self-awareness.

Self-awareness and inner growth: Inner growth requires a minimum of self-awareness, for without it this would mean the person isn’t looking within or to uncover more about themselves.  The more self-awareness you pursue as you live your day to day, the more opportunities for inner growth you will find along the way.

Self-awareness and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about pursuing self-awareness? What challenges do I face in my pursuit for self-awareness?  What have I learned (about myself, the world, life, people, etc.) from self-awareness?  How has self-awareness affected my life?  How has self-awareness affected my relationships?  What was my first self-awareness moment?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with self-awareness at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now pick three words from your list; then for each word, put two more words that are related to a personal experience of yours with self-awareness (write them out next to each of the three words you picked so you can find them easily).  Pick at least one of the three words you listed along with its two self-awareness experiences (the words you put next to each of the three words), and expand on the self-awareness experiences (if you want you can also try using the words from your first list in writing about the experiences).

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about self-awareness and focus on that initial feeling that arose as soon as you thought of the word. Allow this feeling to expand throughout your body and if thoughts or other feelings come by, put them aside to be picked back up again in a short bit.  After about five minutes allow another feeling that arose before to come around and let it be the one to expand, without thoughts coming into play just yet.  Give it a couple minutes and then let the thoughts come in too, always focusing on one at a time and the feeling they bring about.
