Inner Growth Thought of the Day: Letting Go Of Old Ways That Hold You Back
Letting go of old ways that hold you back isn’t easy at first. This is why so many people go through cyclical patterns that keep holding them back from their unlimited potential over and over again.
It’s only until you decide to persevere beyond that down moment, get over that hump, that you are able to push through the biggest hurdle that keeps you tied up in those old ways that hold you back. As you focus on inner growth through the down moments your attention explores within and enables you to lead your conversations in a way that helps you to decide how you want to let go and transform that particular ‘old’ way (instead of clinging on to it).
Here are some ways to let go of old ways that hold you back through inner growth.
- Once a year identify any particular way (pattern, habit, thought, etc.) that you handled things, which you noticed held you back from expressing and being more in that moment. Decide one to three ways you are going to work on letting go of that ‘way’ in the year to come.
- Think of one to three feelings that help you to let go of something that brings you down. Use those feelings in any moment you notice the ‘old’ way resurfacing and apply the ‘new’ way you’ve chosen to lead with.
- Write about two to three things you find most challenging about letting go and for each item you list write two ways you’re going to learn from that challenge by exploring within (inner core). Then write about what you learned and repeat the exercise for all the times you go through a challenge in letting go of an ‘old’ way.
