Inner Growth Thought of the Day: How Do You Listen?
Tune in to the Inspiring Human Potential podcast on Anchor to hear more on the topic 😊
Listening is one of the toughest things to do because being conscious of how you listen isn’t always in the forefront when someone is talking to you.
As you become aware of you (of yourself) in the moment, you are able to stop yourself from not lending an ear. This means you tune in to what the communicator is saying versus thinking of what your thoughts on the topic are or how you see and feel in regard to what is being communicated to you.
Here are some ways to pursue genuine and complete listening, while also gaining insights that can help you along your inner growth journey.
- When someone is talking to you catch yourself as you think of answers and pause the thought process, while refocusing your attention to the words of the communicator and the feelings you are perceiving they are sharing as they convey their message to you. After the conversation note how many times you had to pause yourself and regain focus on what the person was saying.
- As you gain consciousness of your listening skills, write out five ways you are going to work on tuning in to others by resolving the things that are bringing you to not listen in the moment.
- Whenever you feel that another person is not listening to you, write out why that is and what they could have done or can do to make you feel that they are truly listening. Keep these notes with you and apply them when you are the listener; if you have a hard time doing what you would want others to do so that you feel listened to, ponder over why this is such a challenge and how you are going to overcome it.
Your turn – Share your inner growth thought of the day, a sentence, life examples, or action steps you take with new beginnings 😊
