Inner Growth Thought of the Day: Dealing With Ego Driven People

When we deal with ego driven people there’s a flux of emotions that can take place, particularly when the egos clash (your ego and the other person’s ego).  The challenge in dealing with these situations is that ego is involved on both ends in the moment, and it is only through awareness of this that you can start to remove the destabilization that dealing with another ego can bring about.


The level of awareness, empathy, and/or pause in a situation where you’re dealing with an ego driven person depends on what your biggest desire is in dealing with that situation.  If your desire involves you, so for example, learning to look within and find out more about yourself or looking to your solutions for your inner harmony, your desire is achievable.  If your desire is to change the other person, change their ego because it’s “wrong”, then you are less likely to find stability in that moment since your desire isn’t something you can achieve without the other person wanting the same thing.


In either case, there are some ways that can help you in the moment (allow some calm and inner growth moments).


  1. When you catch yourself getting agitated due to dealing with an ego driven person, remove your focus from them and what they’re doing and place it on your breathing and your heart beat. Look to regain your calm, your center physiologically speaking.


  1. Remove focus from the person and place it on solutions you can apply, list in your mind as many as possible until you find the one that works that doesn’t involve the other person.


  1. When you have no other choice, but to deal with certain ego driven people, make a list of things you learn about yourself in each interaction. As you spot things in your list that you would like to transform (for you); use the obligated interaction with these ego driven people to practice your transformation of the behavioral trait or thought pattern you’ve identified of you that you want to work on.
