Inner Growth Word of the Day: Deception

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. the act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.  1 b. the fact or condition of being deceived.  2. something that deceives.

Deception in a sentence: Deception gets uncovered in time, whether it’s towards others or one’s self.

Deception in action: When you trick someone or yourself to believe something that isn’t true, that is deception.

Deception and inner growth: Exploring how you uncover deception and when you’ve been deceptive assists inner growth as it gets you to look within from many places and to question the first layers of answers you provide, because of deception’s depth and nature.  As you do this you uncover hidden secrets that allow you to provide real closure and real action to overcome these situations and/or characteristics.

Deception and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: When was the first time I experienced deception? Have I caught myself in self-deception?  How has deception taught me to explore my hidden fears?  What are two of the biggest takeaways I’ve had from moments where deception was present?  How has deception affected my life and relationships?  When has deception played a major role in my life?  How do I uncover deception with others, but above all with myself?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with deception at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of three instances, one where your deception was with yourself, another where deception was in regard to a situation; and the third, deception towards another person. Write about the most important lesson from each situation and the feelings you had as you experienced these moments.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about deception and as you pay attention to where your emotions start out, you want to also try and describe the senses that you are experiencing. As you identify each emotion in your own words, release them one by one after describing them to yourself
